What does a “low normal” bone density test mean?
Last week I had a bone density test; yesterday the office called, said my test was in the “low normal” range, and they would see me in two years. What does “low normal” mean and what should I be doing for myself within those two years?
I should add that I’m 51 and have had a hysterectomy.
It means it’s at the lower end of the normal range. So it’s still okay but if it has got any lower in the next two years, they may recommend treatment such as HRT (if you are not already on it).
In the meantime you may want to try taking Vitamin D and Calcium Supplements. Also strength training 2-3 times a week very good for strengthening bones.
